Rosedale School

Rosedale School is situated in Galway City and provides an educational service for students aged 6 to 18 years who have an intellectual disability in the severe or profound range.

Rosedale School aims to provide a holistic education, which encompasses a happy, supportive learning and nurturing environment. Students, parents, and all staff work in partnership. Each individual student is valued, encouraged and respected for his/her uniqueness and facilitated to reach his/her potential physically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and academically. We strive to enable each student to progress towards reaching his/her fullness in adult life and in society.

Where does the money go?

Fundraising

Through the support of families, friends and staff in recent years fundraising activities have enabled the school to provide resources that would not have been provided through our usual funding. We have used these funds in a variety of ways to enrich the learning of our students:-

Firstly, the children of Rosedale have never had access to a proper playground in the same way as every other child in a mainstream school has. Through fundraising we now have a new playground area with specially adapted equipment to meet the needs of our students.

Also through fundraising we have been able to purchase a new kiln which will allow our students to explore and be creative in a different way.

Equipment

Computers are an invaluable resource for students with special educational needs. They do not replace systematic traditional methods but rather are valuable complimentary material. Through fundraising we have been able to provide touch screens for every classroom which allows out students more meaningful access to computer software.

Equipment for a multi-sensory room has been purchased, and our students now enjoy opportunity for many varied sensory experiences.

The fundraising has also been used to provide a music room where the students will be able to access a variety of musical instruments which will help them to express their individuality in their own way
